Are you interested in Coaching?
The Newmarket Soccer Club is running a volunteer Rep Coach Apprenticeship Program and seeking interested individuals over the age of 20, male or female who would like to further increase their own soccer experience.  All you require is sufficient spare time during the evenings and/or weekends. Ideally the program duration is based over twelve months but is also flexible to suit each individual’s schedule and/or commitment.

Program
The Apprenticeship program objectives are designed to help each candidate enhance their own soccer knowledge and learning. Candidates will be provided with the basic skills required to coach at the entry level (Active Start). Candidates will work alongside the Club’s Technical Staff gaining valuable knowledge and experience. This is a volunteer position with future coaching opportunities.  At the end of the program candidates will be prepared for their first coaching assessment. Candidates are required to dress appropriately and at no time will they be left unsupervised.

Structure
The Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) is re-structuring their coaching certification program for 2012. This new direction is being incorporated by the NSC to help guide each candidate to understand the principles of appropriate coaching preparation and methodology. This structure allows for flexibility and the candidate can put the logbook away for as long as is necessary before re-opening again. Candidates can attend a program once a month or once/twice a week until completion of the logbook guidelines.

Content
Each candidate will be required to complete a minimum of 30 hours which encompasses on-field practical coaching sessions, attending club technical meetings and District technical seminars. Candidates will be required to take notes and transfer these notes into a course logbook. The course assignments require being signed by a witness as being true and dated.

Conclusion
At the end of the program each candidate will be fully prepared with the basic elements ready to attend the entry level of the coaching pyramid. They will have documented their progress in a logbook of all sessions and seminars covered. Once complete they will be expected to attend an appraisal with the Club Head Coach and/or Board to complete their Apprenticeship course.

Ongoing
The OSA and York Region (YRSA) coaching certification programs are intended for the candidate to continue exploring their coaching experience.  The next step of Physical Literacy moves from Stage 1 – Active Start progressing to Stage 2 – Fundamentals within the Long Term Player Development module (LTDP). The NSC endeavours to help candidates achieve that goal.
