Newmarket  Breaks Ground on First-Ever Indoor Soccer Facility
Newmarket, August 11, 2011 - For Immediate Release

Newmarket Mayor Tony Van Bynen, MPP - Frank Klees, and representatives from the  Newmarket Soccer Club (NSC) Executive Committee kicked off the official groundbreaking on Newpark Drive to mark the future home of Newmarket's first indoor soccer facility.

"On behalf of the Newmarket Soccer Club and the thousands of children, youth and adults that we serve, it is my privilege to introduce our brand new indoor soccer centre in the heart of our community."  states NSC President, Lucille Abate.

"The Newmarket Soccer Centre will be a first class facility with over  43,000 sq.ft.  housing two equal size soccer fields." continues Ross Abate, Land and Facilities Director for the club.

In response to the growing demand for indoor soccer, the concept of constructing an indoor facility began in 1993.  The introduction of the Phoenix Dome in 2002 provided a temporary solution to this growing demand, however, due to health and safety issues, began the journey to construct an indoor soccer facility in 2006.

In July 2009, our application for RInC funding from the federal and provincial government was approved. These funds, together with grants from the Trillium foundation made it possible to proceed towards the construction of a permanent structure on Newpark Drive.  Through an enormous amount of volunteer time donated to this project, we are proud to have persevered to become one of the first indoor soccer facilities in Ontario to be owned and operated by a not-for-profit soccer club.

As news of the Newmarket Soccer Centre grows, we anticipate that tens of thousands of people will find their way to Newmarket each and every year.  We also welcome a multitude of other outdoor sports who have been anticipating this unique opportunity to continue their training and development during the fall/winter season.

It is our privilege to serve our community.  Our focus remains on the children and youth of Newmarket; their recreation, endorsing a healthy active lifestyle and an opportunity for them to become further leaders in our community.

Newmarket is a wonderful place to live and to raise a family. We believe that the Newmarket Soccer Centre will be another source of pride for our community.
