Student Mentor Coaches

The Newmarket Soccer Club has openings for Student Mentor Coaches who enjoy working with children and are knowledgeable about the game of soccer.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in Sports Administration, Sports Management, or other various programs dealing directly with children and recreational sports.  There will be an extensive training program prior to the official start of the season.

  • Students who have played soccer for the Newmarket Soccer Club or for clubs from the surrounding areas.
  • Students who have a desire to coach and enjoy working with young children.
  • Students who are currently playing soccer for their College/University team (asset only).
  • Students who have coaching certification levels (asset only).
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours (evening, weekends, holidays) on a regular basis.

Duties:

  • Student coaches will work with the mentor coach for the first 6 weeks of the program.
  • Attend the pre- season work clinics and get a good understanding of the age groups and the ability level.
  • Assist in selecting team coaches and formulating team rosters.
  • Student coach will offer support to coaches who may have to miss their teams practice due to either work or other commitments.
  • Student Coach will work in the clubs summer camps working with children of the same age group.
  • Offering on field support to house league coaches during practice and game times.
  • Learn the programme, drills, fun games and the methods of coaching young players from the Mentor Coach.
  • Represent the Newmarket Soccer club at all in-house tournaments and club events.
  • To be part of the Summer Camp Staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
