Becoming a soccer referee is a great opportunity for players, parents, and soccer enthusiasts to give back to the game while learning responsibility, confidence, communication, and decision-making.
Newmarket Soccer Club welcomes new referees each year and works closely with Ontario Soccer to help Match Officials get started. Whether you're interested in officiating small-sided games or full-sided matches, there's a pathway for you.
Small Sided Match Official
Minimum Age: 12 years old (by March 31)
The Small Sided Match Official course prepares referees to officiate 5v5 and 7v7 matches. This is the perfect starting point for young officials looking to gain experience in a supportive environment.
You'll be eligible to officiate:
Entry Level Match Official
Minimum Age: 14 years old (by March 31)
The Entry Level Match Official course qualifies referees to officiate both 9v9 and 11v11 matches as a referee or assistant referee. This certification opens the door to officiating recreational and competitive soccer throughout Ontario.
